Recently, I booked a room through a hotel service platform. So, I visited the place after going through all the reviews, pictures, and descriptions from such a platform. After my visit, it was the same as the photos showed on the platform, but after 2 am, the water stopped coming, leading to inconvenience.

Due to that, I called them and asked them to fix such an inconvenience, but they delayed, and because of that, it hampered my next day. As I knew my rights and just filed a consumer complaint, which led to resolving and repaying my inconvenience.

One day, when I was ordering a few products from an e-commerce website, I saw a product that was similar to one from a recognised company. When I saw the description, I got the FSSAI number. So, when I tried to verify that license on such a government license site, the product and company were not there.

And when I searched that company in the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, guess what, the company was not registered. So, many people are being fooled, and we just see the review and buy.

How important it is to know our rights

When analysing the above two cases, it is important to know the rights so that no one comes and fools us. It is important to be aware of our rights and to spread awareness so that fraudulent people are exposed. It is important for us to take a stand for ourselves and understand consumer rights.

When you can say that you are a consumer 

In Section 2(7) of the Consumer Protection Act 2019, a consumer is defined. This means when you buy any product or avail any services, for example, taking services from a parlour, and there is a payment involved, then you are considered to be a consumer.

In the above two cases, the hotel service platform, the e-commerce site, and the company that is giving the products are the consumer.
